A classic, and Brand’s influence is well documented in Fred Turner’s book From Counterculture to Cyberculture. See also the movie “Hackers” (not the one with Anthony Michael Hall .. which is about one of the first Hacker conventions, also organized by Brand. It is however, easy to overestimate Brand’s influence (or that of Kay, Engelbart and SRI)… but they undoubtedly played a key role.

More historical than anything else, but I assume you are aware of Brand’s 1972 Rolling Stone article “SPACEWAR”? I find it interesting to think that many of these behaviors grew out of the construction of a computer game, as Brand says, in the sahdow of the establishment…
